Happy 1st Birthday PERSPEX
By Hannah Schmidt-Rees
Well, here we are. It's officially one year since I launched PERSPEX. 365 days, 12 months, 46 articles and 12 wrap up videos.
I started PERSPEX simply because I wanted to. I wanted to create a platform that talked about fashion in an alternative way, creating a space that allowed anyone, those interested, studying or working in fashion or otherwise could explore the more interesting side of fashion. To understand that fashion is more than just celebrities and the same look over and over. Over the past 12 months, almost six thousand people have visited PERSPEX, from over 30 different countries. Even some of my articles appear on the first page of Google. That's way more exposure than I thought possible in the first 12 months. Not saying that I didn’t have any expectations or anything, but I didn't really start PERSPEX to become popular, so six thousand visitors was a little surprising for me. But I'm in no way complaining, I'm pretty proud of that.
But enough about the past, what about the future? Where will PERSPEX be in another year or two? Well, I hope PERSPEX will continue to grow. I hope it becomes more than just a side project. I want to start interviewing fashion creatives for articles. I want to visit more fashion events and write about my experience. I want to have the resources to create my own photoshoots for new PERSPEX articles. And I just want to push the boundaries of what fashion-related topics I can write about. And hopefully I can make a writing schedule and actually stick to it, instead of occasionally having an entire month with no new posts, oops.
Ok so I'm about to get a little deep here, so read on if you want, but since it's been a year I think I deserve to get a little deep.
I just want to thank everyone who has ever visited PERSPEX, supported PERSPEX on Instagram or subscribed to PERSPEX. If you've visited only once or have read every post, thank you for continuing to support me; just a small-town fashion marketing student writing about the things she likes. This past year has been the most amazing yet challenging for me. I completed a year of study in Melbourne, creating some works that I'm incredibly proud of. I gotten some amazing opportunities, one even being my first job in the fashion industry, and I'm incredibly grateful for those who I've met because of those opportunities. So much in my life has changed, and for some I was sad to see it go, but everything happens for a reason and it's all for the best.
Happy 1st Birthday PERSPEX.
Here's to many more years to come.
