About Perspex
Broadcasted out of a small studio apartment in South Melbourne, PERSPEX is the perfect meeting point between a fashion blog and a fashion magazine. Call me Goldilocks because I know when something's just right.
When it came to fashion, I always felt a little different. I never felt like my own personal style fit in with everyone else, and neither did my specific fashion interests. I didn't relate to the stereotypical Instagram fashion blogger and I walked around every popular clothing store without anything catching my eye. When conceiving the idea that has now morphed into PERSPEX, I knew from the start that my fashion blog was going to be a little bit different.
I wanted to provide a space for people, like me, to celebrate and learn more about a different look into the fashion industry. I wasn't going to write about 'ten ways to style a simple white t-shirt' or 'my top five favourite shoes of the month'. There isn't anything wrong with that type of content, but if I was interested in reading about fashion from a different angle, surely there were people like me too. And if I wasn’t going to do something about it, who was?
And that’s the purpose of PERSPEX. To provide read-worthy, magazine-like articles about the fashion industry in a fashion blog format. To make fashion a more personable experience, an experience created by one fashion-lover, not a big company. To help people like me learn more about the fashion industry, just in a way that’s different from everyone else.
Fashion content needs a little diversity. It’s not just about the Instagram fashion bloggers, not about brands like Zimmerman and Kookai, or about the 'four simple ways to integrate leopard print into your wardrobe'. It's about fashion's powerful influence on society and the absolute creativity held within it. It’s about people like you and me reading about the industry that we both love.
Where did the name PERSPEX come from?
Well, not to get too nerdy, Perspex (or polymethyl methacrylate) is a transparent thermoplastic that’s used as a shatter-resistant alternative to glass. I thinks it’s a perfect fit for what I’m creating here; a source of fashion information that’s transparent, resilient and uncompromising.
who runs PERSPEX?
Well, if you take a look at the photo above, that's me. Hey! I'm Hannah, a 24 year old fashion marketing student living in Melbourne after moving from the Blue Mountains, Sydney. I’m androgynous, a bit socially awkward, artistic, nerdy and one of a kind.
I completed high school in 2017, and whilst I excelled in visual arts and design, I had absolutely no idea on what I wanted to do with my life. After some overthinking, I applied for a degree in advertising. Advertising always interested me; the ways in products are given meaning to influence people; and I honestly had nothing else to consider. I was accepted, and whilst I was happy with my choice, something just wasn’t right.
Over my last year of high school, my interest in fashion grew, and I found myself wanting to be a part of this crazy, creative and influential industry. I re-evaluated my interests (which had boiled down to visual design and advertising), and followed my gut feeling into the realm of fashion marketing. And the rest is history.
On another note; if you would like to see some of graphic design works, have a look here!
